Ed Platt, d’Enchant, est allé voir Rush lors du Vapor Trails Tour il y a quelques jours. Comme Rush ne se décidait pas à passer en France, Ed nous livre sa chronique d’un très bon concert . Une exclusivité Progressia en V.F. et V.O. pour que les Européens se mordent les doigts !<\/strong><\/p>

\"\"« Je me suis rendu à ce concert avec mon épouse et un très bon ami, batteur dans notre groupe de reprises de chart hits. La tribu Enchant était de sortie : Sean Flanegan (batterie), venu avec des amis et qui devait retourner voir Rush quelques jours plus tard à San Jose, Doug Ott (guitare) et Paul Craddick (ex-batteur), accompagné de sa femme. Le public regorgeait en fait de musiciens du coin ainsi que de bons amis à nous qui s’étaient donné rendez-vous pour l’occasion. Le beau temps était également de la partie – il fait plus frais depuis – et il est agréable de voir qu’en octobre le soleil est toujours présent à San Francisco. La salle de concert était à moitié découverte, on voyait la lune au-dessus de la scène et le mont Diablo en arrière plan. Enfin, j’étais correctement placé, sans plus (place assise) : j’ai donc un peu bougé pendant la soirée, qui a été phénoménale, comme toujours : plus de trois heures de jeu !<\/p>

Rush a débuté son show avec « Tom Sawyer », « Distant Early Warning » et « New World Man ». Vint alors « Roll The Bones », et… j’ai malheureusement oublié l’ordre des morceaux qui suivirent. Le son, un peu confus au début, s’est rapidement amélioré. Le son de guitare était impressionnant, ronronnant, profond et plein de basses, Alex Lifeson alternant Gibson Les Paul, PRS
(NdT : Paul Reed Smith, marque de guitares haut de gamme) et Fender Telecaster, entre autres. Geddy Lee n’était pas en reste et pour lui, le mot d’ordre semblait être « vintage », puisqu’il a principalement utilisé une de ses vieilles Jazz Bass (j’ai le même modèle à la maison, et je m’en suis beaucoup servi pour l’enregistrement de « Blink Of An Eye »). C’était génial ! Quel son ! Geddy Lee est vraiment mon bassiste favori, toutes catégories confondues. Quant à Neil Peart (batterie), que dire si ce n’est qu’il reste vraiment incroyable, et pourtant je l’ai vu live un paquet de fois. Cette fois encore nous nous sommes pris une grosse claque, notamment grâce à un très bon solo avec de sérieuses parties jazz.
Je crois que « mon » moment fort reste la version acoustique de « Resist » par Ged et Alex et la petite surprise causée par l’interprétation de « The Pass ». Concernant l’album « Vapor Trails », tous mes titres favoris ont été joués : « Earthshine », « Secret Touch »… le bonheur ! La première partie du concert s’est achevée sur « Vital Signs » et « Natural Science », qui restent vraiment de grands moments live. J’aime également beaucoup « Grace Under Pressure » (notamment « Red Sector A »), et « Power Windows », dont j’aurais aimé entendre plus de morceaux sur scène (comme « Big Money »)…
Le deuxième set fut consacré aux morceaux les plus progressifs de Rush, notamment extraits d’ « Hemispheres » avec… « La Villa Strangiato » live :

Ce fut l’un des meilleurs concerts auxquels il m’ait été donné d’assister, même si j’ai plus apprécié le Test For Echo Tour (tournée précédente), puisque j’avais réussi à me faufiler juste devant Geddy Lee. J’avais également assisté à une date du « Power Windows Tour », qui restera pour moi l’une de leurs meilleures tournées, en plein air, sous les étoiles.
Nous avons tous passé une très bonne soirée. Ce qui me désole, c’est que Rush ne semble pas se décider à vous rendre visite à vous, fans européens. Cela n’a toujours pas l’air prévu, n’est-ce pas ? »<\/p>

"It was amazing. Very nice weather the venue is half covered. The backdrop was amazing with Mt Diablo behind the Pavillion and the moon set above the gig. They were phenominal as usual and the set was just incredible. 3hrs + they played. I did not bring my son because he was not into it as much as I thought he would be just yet? He is only 7 and I might have been a bit hopeful he would enjoy it just this young. Next time for him. He will enjoy it more when he is a year or two older.My favorites were the acoustic version of Resist, Vital Signs, Natural Science and La Villa ! They played some Hemisperes stuff that was amazing too! It all was! I really love the new album too.<\/p>

Well this is what I can tell you for now my friend :
I ended up going with my wife and a good friend who is also a drummer in our top 40 cover band. Sean went with friends, he went again Friday night in San Jose and Doug and Paul and Pauls wife also were there. Many other musicians in the area and good friends were there as well. It was a very nice night, it has just cooled off here now? We have been very lucky indeed, the SF Bay area is an amazing place to live and it is very warm into October usually. My seats were OK? not great so moved around quite a bit.
They opened with Tom Sawyer, Distant Early Warning and New World Man. Then Roll the Bones and I can not remember all of the order after that. The sounds semed to be dialed in from the start and just got better! Alex’s guitars sounded amazing! lots of growl and bass in the Pauls and the PRS’s he played a Tele too and a bunch of other axes! Geddy Played his black vintage Jazz most of the time! I have th at same Bass that I used to record much of BOAE. IT was awesome! He is my favorite of all time! His bass growled as well! amazing tone! He was great! And Niel was as incredible as I have ever seen him. And I have seen him many many times! His drum solo was incredible! especially the Jazz parts! I think my favorite moment was when Geddy and Alex did a acoustic verion of Resist. They played the Pass as well which was a surprise, They played all my favorites from Vapor Trails too! Earthshine and Secret Touch are amazing! They ended the first set with Vital Signs and Natural Science, that was truly incredible. I love Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows very much so Big Money and Red Sector A are always favs as well. I wish they would have played a few more from PW though? <\/p>

The second half of the show featured a lot of more progressive music like from Hemispheres! including parts of La Via that were great! The concert was one of the best I have ever seen! I enjoyed the last one more but only because I was in the third row in front of Geddy! That was the Test for Echo tour! I saw the Power Windows tour as well outside under the stars which was up there on the all time best list!
